Despite Jim Rodgers' exhortation to get out of the dungeon, I've been spending much of my summer in my sanctuary called Earth. Experiencing the creative solitude of digging in it, planting it, hiking and backpacking around it.
Turning off the phones, leaving computer and email behind. . . that's what I call a real vacation.
Connecting with the Earth centers me, inspires me, enables me to face whatever shows up. When clients are having a hard time making tough decisions, such as restructuring their organization, deciding whether to downsize, confront a non-performing employee, or move in a different direction, being rooted in what matters helps me provide a safe, calm space for them to make the hard choices.
A re-emergence almost makes me feel like Rip Van Winkle because technology and social media are driving things so fast. If I'm not careful, life and work will feel like a big blur.
I wonder what my fellow consultants are doing to keep themselves inspired and centered.
