[Re-posted from IMC email newsletter.]

Major efforts have been underway to bring more visibility to IMC as the professional organization for management consultants and to increase awareness of the CMC. Thanks to Bette Price, the Communications and PR Chair and Gayle Carson, Vice Chair of Marketing, PR, and Communication, we have seen the increase in media activity reported below. Because most of our membership may not always see specific articles, we wanted to share with you the activity so that you can see the inroads that are being made.
The following is a summary of activity since January, 2009:
• IMC Chairman Drumm McNaughton was interviewed for an article about mentoring and management which ran in the Feb. 15 issue of
Wall Street Journal Sunday.
• The home page of our
ExpertClick media site has been rewritten to reflect more pull from the media. This has been effective in attracting several media inquiries.
• A press release posted to promote CMC involvement with the aftermath of hurricane Rita and its impact on refineries—a situation handled by CMC Lorraine Huchler—received multiple media hits.
• The
Counselor Magazine interviewed Drumm and one other board member regarding the economy.
• Drumm was interviewed in February for a story on consulting for
CBS MoneyWatch
• CMC Bette Price was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal Sunday (appears in 82 national newspapers Sunday edition). She was quoted in the 1/25/09 article with certification being mentioned.
• Drumm was interviewed by the
Dayton Daily News regarding the economy, budget cuts, etc. for an article in its business section.
• Drumm was interviewed by the
Atlanta Business Chronicle for an article about the importance of relationships when hiring a consultant. The article ran 1/19/09. CMC Jim Rogers was also interviewed for this article, giving double exposure to CMCs.
•
Clement Communications interviewed CMC Bette Price for a special publication “Supervisor’s Guide to Employment Practices.”
• Drumm, Atlanta member Cynthia Currence and Bette Price were interviewed by
Kiplinger for an article on setting out on your own consulting business. The article ran in Kipplinger’s Retirement Report, April edition.
• Drumm was interviewed for
Consultants News (a Kennedy publication), the March 27 edition.
• Background information on consulting and economic research information was provided to
American Cities Business Journal for an article scheduled for May.
• Conducted a national survey of CMCs regarding the economic impact on consulting. Turned survey information into news release which was posted on
ExpertClick. Release received 37 hits the first day and was picked up immediately by Google.
Our new website, along with media activity and our positioning on
ExpertClick has positioned IMC to the number two spot on
Google for management consulting. Unfortunately, we are not always alerted to the pick-ups of releases, but through
Google alerts, do get some insights. Generally, when the release is opened, it will receive a percentage of pick-up, even thought we may not be contacted. In other instances, even those releases not picked up do raise our awareness level with reporters and do result in future contacts. We continue to field media calls, respond quickly and appropriately and will continue to engage in proactive ways to reach the media with viable, newsworthy activity. Most importantly, we are beginning to see reporters respectfully consider IMC as a viable source and that’s a major step in the right direction.
If you have news of a national interest, please let us know by contacting P.R. chair, Bette Price at Bette@PriceGroupLeadership.com. A media guide has been developed to help chapters handle activities which are more of a local nature. The guide will be distributed to each chapter by May.
