What are Hashtags you say?

Twitter, while still often considered a nascent social media channel is becoming increasingly popular and useful as a business tool. One function used with Twitter is the "Hashtag". In the definition pulled directly from www.hashtags.org

"Hashtags was designed to accommodate the real-time news community. We provide analytic reports and indexing features to allow users to track what's happening now.

Hashtags are a community-driven convention for adding additional context and metadata to your tweets. They're like tags on Flickr, only added inline to your post. You create a hashtag simply by prefixing a word with a hash symbol: #hashtag."

How might NorCal Consultants use Hashtags?

Well, given the increasing number of our area consultants who are using Twitter as a marketing and networking tool. Simply adding the hashtag #imcnorcal to any Tweet that references the association, will allow anyone to view all these comments in one place on www.hashtags.org.
