What presenters can learn from "How Bacteria Talk"

An interesting talk on Ted.com caught my attention just by the title - "How Bacteria Talk" by Bonnie Bassler. Here's what I got from this video: How to deliver what could be very technical information in a very memorable manner. Stories and humor are part and parcel of tech-talks. Using PowerPoint effectively - note the lack of text and the simplicity of the graphics. Summations that aren't the boring list of "I told you what I told you." And of course an interesting lesson in research and wher… Continue

When 1 Teaches - 2 Learn

I saw that tagline on a t-shirt and will never forget it because it is so true - When 1 teaches, 2 learn! And that is exactly what happened to me last Friday at the Oakland ABC meeting hosted by Barbara Chan. I was invited to talk about what I learned while writing my book. I made the talk interactive, as I always try to. My goal for the talk was to get writers and non-writers alike motivated with some ideas about their business' and encourage them to write, even if they are non-writers… Continue

Have you personally invited another consultant/industry expert to join lately?

Have you personally invited another consultant/industry expert to join lately? Just another way to say 'Thank you' to them by giving them exposure and at the same time advancing our network - win-win. I have met so many quality people through this network. Surrounding yourself with people that support you in a positive manner and being able to share ideas and tools is invaluable, especially when you are going it alone. Have you set a personal goal to invite people? Not for the sake of invitin… Continue

Special Event Insurance

I am working with the American Society of Safety Engineer's on a two day event in Anaheim in October, 2010. We are researching whether or not their national org. has insurance or can get it. Until we hear from them I am curious as to whether any of the consultants here might have previous experience with this? Continue

Get Famous! It’s the best thing you can do for your business!

This was the topic at BACN last Friday. The speaker, Dennis Erokan of The Place Making Group: Get Famous! It’s the best thing you can do for your business! was wonderful. The insights Dennis gave us as to getting famous certainly opened my mind to other possibilities. For instance, Dennis is well known for being the founder and publisher of MicroTimes and BAM, a Bay Area Music magazine. He is now a consultant and tells the greatest stories about ho… Continue

We need your help with compiling Consultant Classifications

The CmCC Development Committee is tasked with trying to automate the registration and scheduling of the 2009 CmCC Networking Event. In doing so one of the prime items we need is a fairly comprehensive list of types of managment consultants, i.e. Marketing, Sales, Blue Collar, Speaking, Copywriting, Patents and Trademarks, etc. ad nauseum. The idea is to create one or more drop-down menus for people to choose from. Any ideas as to where to find this list would be greatly appreciated. Bart Continue
